Living in Spanish Wells: Amenities, Real Estate and Lifestyle

Welcome to Spanish Wells

Spanish Wells is a Hilton Head Island private community occupying a peninsula touched by Broad Creek, the Intracoastal Waterway and Calibogue Sound. Naturally, it is a preferred choice for people who wish to live near the water. Approximately half of the homes in Spanish Wells sit on deep-water lots and the rest enjoy fairway views. Shaded by hundreds of ancient moss-draped live oaks and towering pines, it is a very family friendly community cloistered from the hustle and bustle, but conveniently located near all that Hilton Head Island has to offer.

Why You Belong in Spanish Wells

Spanish Wells is unique for Hilton Head Island real estate developments in that all of the lots are over an acre in size. Large lots and plentiful live oaks, pines and other indigenous vegetation forming a canopy over much of the community create a tranquil park-like setting that makes you forget that you’re in a planned development. It is a vibrant family oriented community where you get to know your neighbors.

Spanish Wells Real Estate

In Spanish Wells you’ll see a wider variety of home styles than in most Hilton Head Island private communities, a characteristic that adds to its neighborhood look and feel. This is due to the fact that all of the home sites are over an acre, affording more leeway in terms of architecture. Residents enjoy a degree of privacy within their homes not seen in other communities with the larger lots and fewer than 300 homes spread over about 400 acres.

Homes in Spanish Wells range from approximately 4,000 square foot cottage, Lowcountry and ranch styles to some of Hilton Head Island’s most luxurious waterfront estate homes. Waterfront homes are all on deep water and most have private docks, giving their owners’ the privilege of keeping a boat in their own back yard. All non-waterfront home sites are located on the fairways of the community’s nine-hole golf course.

Thanks to its location at the tip of a peninsula at the end of Spanish Wells Road, Spanish Wells is perhaps the most private of Hilton Head Island’s private communities, but it is by no means remote. The entrance gate is about five minutes from the Cross Island Parkway’s mid-island access, making it convenient to shopping, dining, professional services, schools, churches and Hilton Head Hospital as well as the Island’s beaches and other activities.
